Donny Ariel is a Managing Director in the New York Office of Engle, Lindsley & Regan.

Donny places attorneys, from junior associates to partners, at law firms and in-house. Prior to becoming a recruiter, Donny was a restructuring lawyer at Cadwalader and Davis Polk. Drawing on his biglaw experience, not only as an attorney but also as a lateral, Donny helps attorneys survey current market opportunities and make an informed, well-considered decision about the trajectory of their careers. Seeking to match each attorney with a role in which they will thrive, Donny takes the time to listen to both the personal and professional needs, wants, and motivations of candidates and clients alike.

Donny understands that the attorneys who work with him do not have the time to undertake a demanding job search. Therefore, he seeks to simplify the process and provide comprehensive support in all respects, from resume review and interview prep to negotiating offers and giving notice. As such, each attorney who works with Donny has an ally and advocate throughout this career-transforming process.

Donny received his B.A. in literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz and his J.D., cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. After law school, he clerked for Chief Judge Carla E. Craig (Ret.) in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Donny is also a Senior Master of Chess, repeatedly ranked among the top 100 chess players in the United States. He worked as a children’s chess coach after college and then put his strategic sense to use playing poker professionally before law school. He lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with his wife and two children.
